Our Story: From Garden Enthusiast to Garden Destinations
Flora Grubb's journey began with a deep-rooted passion for gardening. After twenty years of cultivating her green thumb in Texas, she ventured to San Francisco in 1999, drawn to the city's vibrant horticulture scene. While there, she started a small landscaping company, which led her to cross paths with Saul Nadler, her future business partner.
Their collaboration began with a project for Saul and his wife, Susie, transforming their San Francisco home into a breathtaking garden. The shared passion and creative synergy sparked an exciting vision: a garden center that seamlessly blends design, horticulture, and community.
Combining Flora's horticultural expertise with Saul's entrepreneurial spirit and background in culinary arts and history, they embarked on a new venture. They purchased the Palm Broker, a modest nursery in the Mission District, breathing new life into the space. With a dedication fueled by passion and hard work, they meticulously transformed the site into a vibrant showcase of plants, pottery, and design inspiration.
On a serendipitous rainy day in April 2003, Flora Grubb Gardens opened its doors to the public. The nursery quickly blossomed into a beloved destination for San Francisco's plant enthusiasts and gardening community. Its vibrant collection of plants, charming atmosphere, and knowledgeable staff made it a haven for those seeking to connect with nature and explore the endless possibilities of gardening.
Now, Flora Grubb Gardens has expanded to become a prominent horticultural destination with two locations: a flagship store in San Francisco's vibrant Mission District and a thriving store in Marina del Rey. Each location stands as a testament to Flora and Saul's vision - a place where design and nature intertwine to create an unforgettable experience.
