Our History

Tsugawa Nursery is rooted in a rich family history and a deep passion for horticulture. The story began in 1947 when the Tsugawa family established a strawberry farm in Woodland, Washington. George and Mable Tsugawa, a young couple with a dream, toiled diligently to cultivate their land and grow their business. In 1950, they were blessed with six children, adding a new layer of love and dedication to their farm. Together, they built a thriving operation, nurtured by their unwavering commitment and the fruits of their labor.

The next chapter unfolded in 1981 when the Tsugawa family took a leap of faith and purchased a former nursery. Fueled by their entrepreneurial spirit and a vision for a vibrant gardening destination, they transformed the neglected space into Tsugawa Nursery, officially opening their doors in March of the same year. With limited stock but an abundance of enthusiasm, they embarked on their journey to share their love of plants with the community.

Growth and Expansion

Over the decades, Tsugawa Nursery has flourished, becoming a beloved haven for gardeners and plant enthusiasts alike. The nursery earned its reputation as the region's premier destination for all things horticultural. They expanded their offerings to encompass a wide array of plants, from tree and shrub varieties to colorful annuals and unique perennials, catering to both seasoned gardeners and novice plant lovers.

Directly adjacent to the retail space, the Tsugawa family cultivates a 10-acre greenhouse and nursery operation. This allows Tsugawa Nursery to consistently provide its customers with the freshest, highest quality plants, ensuring a successful and rewarding gardening experience.
