Founded in 1976 by Dale Locklair in Darlington, South Carolina, the company began as a one-man operation and has since grown into a full-service landscape company with a team of experienced professionals. With a degree in Ornamental Horticulture from Clemson University, Dale set out to create a company that would provide top-notch landscaping services to clients in the Pee Dee area and beyond.

The company began with modest beginnings, with Dale starting out with a loan of $2,000 from his parents, an old pickup truck, garden hose, shovels, and a lot of determination. He quickly built a reputation in the area for providing high-quality landscaping services, and the company began to grow. In 1979, Dale's brother David joined the company after graduating from Clemson University with a degree in Civil Engineering, and Randy joined the following year with a degree in Ornamental Horticulture. The company continued to expand its services and client base, and in 1983, Starwood opened an office in Myrtle Beach.

Today, Starwood Landscaping is a highly respected and sought-after landscaping company that has completed major projects throughout South Carolina, as well as out-of-state projects in Georgia and Tennessee. The company has worked with some of the most distinguished architects in the industry, including Pete Dye, Robert E. Marvin, and Greg Duckworth.
